King George’s Hall has a New Monster Friend

King George’s Hall has been joined by a giant inflatable friend as monsters take over the town for just one week!

The rooftops of Blackburn have been given a monster makeover ahead of an action-packed Christmas programme and we colourful tentacles, bulging eyes and pointed teeth have all joined the Blackburn skyline.

The inflatable ‘Monster Mayhem Blackburn’ trail has been organised by Blackburn BID, and is supported by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, The Mall, and funding from Arts Council England National Lottery Project grants.

Families are invited to go on a ‘monster hunt’ to find all three magnificent rooftop monsters, a terrific tree light sculpture and two tantalising tentacle displays, designed by artists Designs in Air.

To be in with a chance of winning £50 in High Street vouchers take the best selfie of one of the monsters and share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #MonsterMayhem.

The trail will be in situ until Friday 26 November – the day before the start of the ‘Illuminate Blackburn’ programme of Christmas events – which includes the Christmas Light’s Switch On event, on Saturday 27 November, and the launch of The Snowman™️ and The Snowdog brick model trail in the town.

The monsters have appeared on top of prominent buildings in Blackburn town centre including The Mall and King George’s Hall, and giant inflatable tentacles will also be trailing in shops for visitors to find.

Catherine Price, Blackburn town centre BID Manager, said:

“We have an action-packed programme of events running until the New Year with something for everyone! All our events are aimed at bringing people into the town centre by creating a ‘must see spectacle’.

“We can’t wait to see people’s reactions when they see these mischievous-looking monsters peering at them from above. Blackburn has so much to offer and we know that people of all ages will enjoy the experience of visiting the town centre this festive season.”
